Prinknash Abbey

Prinknash Abbey is home to a Benedictine Community. You can visit the Abbey to learn about Monastic life. The Abbey is also home to the Orpheus Pavement, the famous Roman mosaic buried at Woodchester. Finish your tour with a trip to the shop to buy some Monk's Cider.

The Orpheus Pavement

The Orpheus Pavement

The Orpheus Pavement is the largest reconstruction of a Roman mosaic north of the Alps. The 15 metre square mosaic took 10 years to build and is now hosted at Prinknash Abbey just outside Painswick.

Painswick Rococo Garden

Painswick Rococo Garden

Situated just outside Painswick, the garden is a fascinating step back to the flamboyant English Rococo period. This gem of a garden, which was originally laid out in the 18th century, is set in a hidden Cotswold valley with magnificent views of the surrounding countryside.

Painswick Golf Club

Painswick Golf Club

It's a hilltop wooded course in an incredibly beautiful setting (bring your camera)with breathtaking views from its highest point - an Iron Age fort that contains four of the eighteen holes! The course is not too long, 4900 yards and featured in Fore! Magazine's '100 Must Play Courses in the British Isles'.

 

Visitors welcome weekdays and Saturday mornings.
Saturday afternoons and Sundays must be accompanied by a member.

Prinknash Bird and Deer Park

Prinknash Bird and Deer Park

In the grounds of Prinknash Abbey is the Bird and Deer Park, a great place for children to run about and see peacocks, exotic birds in tropical aviaries. Also a few deer and miniature goats. There's also a play area and a Tudor-style Wendy house. There are fishponds where you can feed the trout.
