Stroud

Not a ‘quaint’ town like many of those that make up the Cotswolds, Stroud, “The Covent Garden of the Cotswolds,” is a lively community situated on the Cotswolds escarpment. A steep, hillside town, it has a long heritage of industry, farming and tourism.

The town centre is a great place from which to climb the streets to Gloucestershire’s award winning Farmers Market, held every 1st and 3rd Saturdays in the month.

The local countryside made famous as the setting for Laurie Lee's "Cider With Rosie" possesses an intimacy, that is easily accessible, and has long been an inspiration to artists and writers.

Rodborough Common and Minchinhampton Common, just above Stroud to the south, offer superb views of the countryside and, weather permitting, are perfect places to take a picnic, hike around, or fly kites from.
