'The Capital of the Cotswolds,' Cirencester has been a centre of activity since the Roman times when as "Corinium" it was the second largest town in England.
These days the Cirencester skyline is dominated by the church of St John Baptist. The "cathedral of the Cotswolds", it is a symbol of the wealth the town generated from the wool trade.
Corinium Museum was refurbished and re-opened in 2004 and has a large collection of Roman artifacts.
Cirencester is a haven for tourism and crafts. There is an arts centre and workshops with regular craft fairs.
